IMS Measurement Practitioner
This professional IMS qualification can be achieved after successful completion of Module 1, Productivity Foundation and any of the three work measurement options: Module 2a Time Study, Module 2b the MOST® technique or Module 2c Activity Sampling. Each of the modules is subject to continuous instructor assessment and each Module 2 option has an external examination.
IMS Measurement Practitioner
The Institute of Management Services
As the principal approved training provider of the Institute of Management Services (IMS), we run open course modules frequently throughout the year. In-company courses can also be delivered.
If you take the examinations leading to the IMS Measurement Practitioner qualification, or to the full IMS Productivity Analyst, you must be a member of the Institute of Management Services (IMS). This will be as an Affiliate member, which is valid for 5 years and is £235. We will arrange this for you on the first day of your course and include it on your invoice.
IMS Productivity Analyst
Those who are serious about improving productivity should study for the professional qualification offered by the Institute of Management Services (IMS) and become a qualified IMS Productivity Analyst.
For many decades this professional qualification has been known simply as the ‘IMS Certificate’. To illustrate more clearly that the course content is focused on improving productivity, from early 2021 it was re-named IMS Productivity Analyst. It will continue to be the industry standard for productivity professionals and an international qualification that is held in high regard across all sectors.
The four week IMS Productivity Analyst course consists of Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 (each taking 5 days). You can attend any of these, except any of the Module 2 options, without committing to the full IMS Productivity Analyst qualification.
Each of the four modules is subject to continuous instructor assessment and has an examination. At the end of the final week, Module 4, an exam on all four modules’ content is included so we recommend you try to minimise the time between starting and finishing the four week course.
If you take the examinations leading to the IMS Productivity Analyst qualification, you must be a member of the Institute of Management Services (IMS). This will be as an Affiliate member, which is valid for 5 years and is £235. We will arrange this for you on the first day of your course and include it on your invoice.
When you complete all four modules of the IMS Productivity Analyst there is a final certification and upgrade fee of £275. This fee will confer Life membership of the IMS and an upgrade to Associate Member, entitling you to use the designatory letters AMS.
After at least two years as an AMS you can apply to upgrade to Member (designatory letters MMS), subject to appropriate fees, experience and continuing professional development (CPD) certification.

Performance Rating Clinics
1 day £265
This is an essential ANNUAL certification for all Performance Rating analysts and Industrial Engineers to ensure they are maintaining the highest professional standards and are operating to appropriate levels of accuracy. It is an examination process.
For those using Performance Rating, the consequences of not operating at accurate and certified levels could have a significant and negative impact on both individuals and organisations.
The clinics are only for those who have prior formal training and experience. Please contact us if you do require formal training.
We use the BS 0-100 scale as Standard Performance. Take care not to confuse with other rating scales or performance levels including some MTM-based systems. Click here for more information.
The difference at a Scott-Grant Performance Rating Clinic
The industry norm
Scott-Grant Performance Rating Clinics are the only Rating Clinics endorsed by the Institute of Management Services (IMS). This endorsement is the industry norm accepted by businesses and unions across all sectors. Your rating card, valid for 12 months, will bear the IMS logo.
Not just about pace
We remind our delegates that there are many factors involved in Performance Rating, not simply pace. Dexterity, effective effort, consistency and evidence of rhythm are all taken into account as well as speed or pace.
Rating Clinics aren’t just a routine test
All our Rating clinics are led by qualified instructors who give the essential corrective guidance, with statistical and visual feedback to each individual after every film. Analysts should thereby be able to improve their rating performance progressively.
Real activities to rate
We use an extensive library of our own specially produced Rating films, which are all real activities in a wide range of workplaces.
A choice of delivery options
All course delivery options have the same structure and content. Please contact us to discuss your requirements in more detail.
• Open clinics on scheduled dates, see below, at our training centre in Manchester
• Remotely Managed clinics through a live webinar with an Instructor
• Also in-company clinics on an agreed date if you have a suitable venue and appropriate numbers
Power learning
We offer short appreciation courses as an ideal introduction to improving productivity.
Team leaders, line managers, staff planners, cell leaders and supervisors across all sectors have found these courses invaluable.
The courses are often delivered to groups within a company; they generate discussion and provide practical help. The content, emphasis and balance can be reasonably adjusted to address your specific circumstances.
We offer them as open courses, in-company and, under some circumstances, we can deliver the content as a Remotely Managed course.
Guided learning
We offer a range of in-company programmes that normally involves training several people. These include the MOST® technique, Understanding and Improving Performance, The 5S Approach, Quicker Changeovers (SMED) and Performance Rating and Activity Sampling.
After the training our help continues with practical guidance usually for a group of up to five of the delegates as they apply the theory and extend their learning on a live project in your workplace. Our Scott-Grant specialist will guide and prompt them to achieve the best results possible. (More than one group can emerge from the training session.) Delegates feel really motivated as they see the early impact they can now make.
This guided application is a Scott-Grant speciality and many of our customers are delighted at the significant improvements that are quickly identified for the business with this customised and practical approach to learning.
Briefing Days on Lean principles
In a range of 1 or 2 day in-company awareness courses, we present an overview of some productivity principles, including Lean. These are ideally for those going to be affected by their introduction rather for than those applying the technique. For each topic there is an option for additional days of Guided Learning, depending on your requirements.
